Dr. Barbara M. Sharief, M.S.N., A.P.R.N., D.N.P.

Broward County Commissioner

Commission District 8, located in Southern Broward County, Florida, USA


Broward County Commissioner Dr. Barbara Sharief was born in South Florida, raised in Broward County and is a long-time resident of District 8. 


Professionally, Commissioner Sharief is an accomplished, self-made businesswoman. Her career began after she graduated from North Miami Senior High School and enrolled at Miami Dade Community College. She later graduated from Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and obtained an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing from Miami Dade Community College. 


She continued her educational pursuits and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Degree from Florida International University. Commissioner Sharief is one of the youngest people to have passed the RN board exam in the State of Florida.


 Commissioner Sharief received her Doctor of Nursing Practice on . .  October 13, 2017.

Desmond Alufohai is the Director of Protocol and International Affairs Division, Miami International Airport, Miami-Dade Aviation Department. MIA’s Office of Protocol and International Affairs Division was created in 1988 to facilitate the movement of diplomats and dignitaries through MIA and to support the airport’s international programs and initiatives.


MIA was the first airport in the U.S., and one of the few major airports in the world, to offer a full array of services specifically tailored to the needs of traveling diplomats, government officials, delegations, dignitaries, official guests and VIPs.
